Flight Deck Med Check
A downloadable eduLARP
Flight Deck Med Check is an eduLARP (educational live action role play) focused on practicing self-advocacy skills in a healthcare setting. Along with communicating and asserting their needs, desires and rights, players are encouraged to build their awareness of how interactions in the medical system are affected by biases and power dynamics.
It is designed to run in less than an hour for a group of ~10 young adult players and 2 game facilitators, with players taking on the roles of either:
- Applicants for the first permanently-staffed station on Mars, dealing with a range of hopes, fears, and personal medical issues
- Medical providers running applicant checkups, looking for reasons to approve or withdraw them from the mission
This eduLARP was written in draft form by Silvia Beltran, Sarah Biette, Moss Bosch, J Hanju Kim, and Sade Bolger as part of the Clitical Hits game jam hosted by Hazel Dixon and Jon Lutz from July 8th-9th, 2023. Though it is currently a draft/prototype, it is playable in its current state!
